Exercise 1_Rube Goldberg
My Rube Goldberg machine exhibits the cause-and-effect pipeline of the opioid epidemic in the United States. Little blue pills fall down platforms on the left side of the scene. These platforms, the "enablers" (Purdue Pharma, the FDA who failed to enforce marketing rules regarding drug sales, and the doctors who over-prescribed), propel the pills to hit down 5 flags of the states most affected by the opioid crisis (MA, MD, OH, NH, and ending with the most severely affected state, West Virginia). The final WV flag falls onto a platform depicting a coffin that balances on a crystal ball representing both the fortunes of those affected by opioid addictions and the "enablers" who make their money from the sale of opioids. As WV falls onto the platform, the coins hovering above get propelled into the air. The scene rests on the upper right of a map of the US.
I played with mass, gravity, shape, orientation, lighting and materials. I really enjoyed figuring out the shortcuts and how to organize my file neatly.
Issues I faced:
1) I wanted the coins to propel back in the direction of the enablers and fall onto these 3 platforms, but I was unable to make this work.
2) I built two scenes, and tried to include them both in the build and export but I can only see the first scene.
3) The camera view is slightly different on export than it is within the Unity platform
The images used in this project were all sourced from Wikimedia Commons, so they are free to use.
Questions:
1) I rotated the object around to get the image the right side up. Is there a way to rotate the image directly instead of the object?
2) It seems like objects have a greater depth than is visible. For example, if I hovered a coin too close to the coffin platform below, when I pressed play the objects would react as if the coin had been directly weighing on the platform. Is there a way to set the bounding box of your object?
